August

I don't know how it managed to turn to August all of a sudden. I mean seriously, wasn't it JUST the first of July? Weird. Yesterday I went to the grocery store and saw a bunch of back to school stuff and felt that twinge of sadness I usually feel, like it's the end of freedom.. but then I got a grip on myself. I'm free all the time.
Speaking about getting a grip, I finally finished up my butterfly pillow. It's 18 inches square and I used the pillow making method Elizabeth describes in her book. Doesn't it look cute next to the pillow she made me last year for my birthday?
I think the black background makes a much more dramatic pattern, don't you? I like both though, and I'm pleased with how it turned out. I made it as a gift for my sister, and I hope she likes it. I'm VERY LATE for her birthday as usual.
I don't appreciate the funky pillow form though, and probably will have to go grab another. This one makes my corners look bad.

So that's all the news here. It was a fun weekend, with Bret home for 4 days. He's busy on a painting project around here. The house is a wreck. I'm happy I can always find some calm in the sewing room. xo

Love the buttons on the back of the pillow. Lucky sister, I'd grab it happily even late!

Adorable as always...what about pre-stuffing the corners with a bit of batting?

I agree with Auntie Pam, put some stuffing in the corners and you won't need a different pillow form. The pillow is lovely, I want to make one too! Thanks for sharing.

Love the pillow. I totally get the "loss of freedom" feeling. This year my daughter starts the charter school experience (as opposed to the homeschool experience) and I am feeling confined by their schedule.

How fun that you turned the butterflies into a pillow! I think I will make one of those next.

I was at Target yesterday and I saw all that back to school stuff. I loved buying that stuff for my girls. I used to beg them to get it. So, I got myself a little pile of hello kitty and cute stuff yesterday and will drop it off at the boys and girls club today for someone else's cute little ones. It's the thrill of the find and then pass it on! Love your pillow..really darling...xo Pam in Chico

Sooo cute! I've liked your version of the butterflies from the beginning.

Presents are GOOD anytime you get them!

Oh so pretty! I love both pillows but that butterfly pillow is perfection!

And back to school....BLEH!
We have the Nevada County fair next week and then school starts the week after that. I am trying to get all of my fair entries done to turn in this week and need to get a back to school dress done for my little one. And my 5 year old is finishing her first quilt to enter into the fair too.
Seems like the summer went to fast. sigh.

Love the pillow! Flower Sugar works well with that block pattern. I never think to make pillows from favorite patchwork patterns. Maybe I'd get through my *someday* list quicker if I did.

OMG... your pillow is youknowhating adorable!!! I didn't realize the blocks were so small. I love them even more now. It's so cute I could weep. And that's not the atomic fireball talking, either.

Your sister is gonna go nuts over it!!!!

I guess I really didn't have a firm grip on the size butterflies you were working on. They're so dainty! Very sweet. Another inspiration!

I love the pillow. I can't get a handle on the angling of the strips though. It just seems wrong. I'm much more at home snowballing things like that. Oh well. I love it.
